Description

The primary purpose of the Earth Resources Grant Program (ERGP) is to support university students and faculty in conducting minerals research to 1) understand the geologic setting, genesis, quantity, quality, and potential in the United States’ mineral resources, ensure sustainable supply chains, 2) understand the full life cycle and supply chains of critical mineral resources, 3) inform resource management, foreign trade, national security, land use, and major economic investments, and 4) advance innovative and interdisciplinary approaches and technologies for mineral resources research. The ERGP will benefit the Nation by expanding our understanding of critical minerals exploration, extraction, processing, and end-of-life recycling, as well as environmental reclamation. Strategic investments in these research topics will help build the necessary knowledge bank and skilled workforce to support the critical minerals economy in the United States, ensuring against domestic supply chain disruptions.
