Funded Projects

Examples of what this program has supported.

FY2025 Projects focused on turning neglected, contaminated, or underused lands—known as brownfields—into vibrant community spaces like parks, trails, and gardens. Engaged residents in cleaning up and reusing brownfields, promoted greenspace development, youth programs, and access to fresh food, and fostered environmental stewardship and economic revitalization.

Program Objective

Groundwork furthers the mission of the National Park Service by extending the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation to underserved urban areas. The Program provides financial and technical assistance to support private nonprofits and local government working in communities impacted by brownfields for the purposes of reusing brownfields and underutilized lands and waters as parks, trails, and green space.
