FY2024 The Water Education Foundation completed several 2024–2025 initiatives, including launching the Klamath River Basin Tour, which explored dam removal sites and watershed areas in California and Oregon while addressing water supply, quality, agriculture, tribal history, and habitat restoration through diverse speakers. The Foundation updated its Klamath Basin Map to reflect current rivers, lakes, reservoirs, farmland, urban areas, reservations, and dam removal sites, along with explanations of major water and habitat issues. Its main website was refreshed and adapted for mobile access, offering videos, story maps, news feeds, and an expanded multilingual format, with staff trained for ongoing maintenance. The Aquapedia online water encyclopedia was overhauled to provide streamlined, up-to-date, and vetted information on key California and western water issues, including Delta topics and Reclamation facilities. Additionally, the Layperson’s Guide to California Water was revised with current data on water history, drought and flood management, delivery systems, Delta challenges, water rights, and conservation options, and a Spanish edition was published to improve accessibility for broader audiences.
FY2025 Under this agreement, the Water Education Foundation will provide public outreach through several programs and publications that educate various audiences on the importance of water resources in California, including the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and its larger watershed. These public outreach efforts will produce educational materials including, but not limited to, tours, layperson’s guidebooks, maps and online resources/tools.
