Program Objective

The Forest Service received authority for demonstration projects with tribes and tribal organizations to perform administrative, management, and other functions of programs under the Tribal Forest Protection Act through a contract or agreement under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.

Eligible Applicants

Only federally recognized Indian Tribes or Tribal organizations as defined in 25 USC 5304, are eligible for this program.

Award Procedure

The award will be negotiated between the tribe or tribal organization and the local Forest Service unit once a project has been approved following the Tribal Forest Protection Act (25 USC 3115a et seq.) process.

Description

ALN 10.711 supports Tribal self‑determination by authorizing federally recognized Tribes and Tribal organizations to carry out administrative, management, and program functions of the U.S. Forest Service under the Indian Self‑Determination and Education Assistance Act (ISDEAA). Through this authority, Tribes may assume responsibility for projects that protect Tribal trust lands, restore adjacent National Forest System lands, and advance Tribal stewardship priorities.
