Funded Projects

Examples of what this program has supported.

FY2025 This program provided capacity support for animal health research at ~72 eligible institutions in the previous year. These funds supported research projects across all sectors of agricultural animal production and across the United States. The funds not only supported applied research that improved the quality and ability of animal health professionals to protect animals in production, but they also helped to train the next generation of animal health researchers in ways that advance the future of animal pest and disease research.

Program Objective

The purpose of this funding is to increase animal health and disease research activities at accredited public or private veterinary schools or colleges, or state agricultural experiment stations conducting animal health and disease research.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants

  • State
  • Nonprofit Organization

This program is open to eligible accredited school, college of veterinary medicine, or State agricultural experiment station that conducts animal health and disease research in accordance with NARETPA section 1433(c) (7 U.S.C. 3195). The annual NOFO includes a list of eligible institutions. Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply provided the subcontracts are necessary for the conduct of the project. Failure to meet an eligibility criterion by the time of application deadline may result in the application being excluded from consideration or, even though an application may have been reviewed, will preclude NIFA from making an award.

How to Apply

Award Procedure

Within the limit of funds available for such purpose, the NIFA awarding official shall make grants to those responsible, eligible applicants

After the award is finalized, a formal notification in the form of a Notice of Award (NoA), signed by the Authorized Departmental Officer, will be provided to the applicant organization for successful applications. The NoA is the authorizing document and will be sent via email to the recipient's Authorized Representative.

The NoA will provide pertinent instructions and information including, at a minimum, the information described in 2 CFR 200.211 (see NIFA’s Terms and Conditions).

Funds will be released on a quarterly basis to the institutions.
