💡 Tips for applicants
- Use the official pre-proposal template (docx) provided by CDFA. Following the template format exactly improves competitiveness.
- Clearly identify which FREP priority area(s) your project addresses in the opening section of your proposal.
- If your project benefits socially disadvantaged farmers or farm workers, explain this explicitly. CDFA prioritizes equity outcomes.
- Consider leveraging other funding sources alongside FREP. Projects that secure matching funds are viewed favorably even though it's not required.
- Avoid any language suggesting proprietary product testing or commercial promotion. Focus on public research and education benefits.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Proposals that don't clearly align with a FREP priority area are rejected. Applications using the wrong template or ignoring the pre-proposal format are often eliminated early. Projects proposing proprietary product development or testing fail to meet program scope.
