💡 Tips for applicants
- Document the imminent threat or harm clearly. Provide specific incidents, credible risk assessments, or security concerns. Vague descriptions weaken applications.
- Explain how emergency funding enables continued work. Show direct connection between financial support and the defender's ability to operate safely or continue advocacy.
- Demonstrate the organization's track record supporting human rights defenders. Include past emergency assistance, rapid-response capacity, or proven relationships with at-risk groups.
- Include security plans or risk mitigation strategies. Show how funds will protect the defender while sustaining their work on fundamental freedoms.
- Submit early and maintain clear communication with the agency. Emergency programs value responsiveness and may require quick turnaround for documentation.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Vague threat assessment without specific incidents or credible evidence of imminent danger. Failing to show how emergency funding directly supports continued advocacy work on freedoms. Weak organizational capacity or unclear track record assisting threatened defenders.
