Program Objective
The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) establishes a new fund for five years to address the maintenance backlog of the US Forest Service and other federal land management agencies.

How to Apply
Award Procedure
GAOA funded agreements must follow Agency grants and agreements policy, processes and procedures outlined in Forest Service Manual 1580 and Forest Service Handbook 1509.11 and the requirements of the Statute cited on the agreement instrument authorizing project work to be completed. Agency agreements are not competition based; therefore, no application or proposal is required. Organizations entering into these agreements must have the necessary capabilities and resources to carry out the project work in accordance with Forest Service regulations.

Description
The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) passed Congress and signed by the President committing $900 million to the Land and Water Conservation Fund and $1.9 billion annually for up to 5 years to land management agencies to address deferred maintenance backlog. Forest Service will receive approximately a $285 million appropriation for congressionally approved deferred maintenance projects.
