💡 Tips for applicants
- Build partnerships with Sierra Leone health organizations before applying. CDC prioritizes proposals with strong local collaborators and co-investment.
- Focus your narrative on how your work addresses pandemic preparedness and disease surveillance capacity in Sierra Leone specifically.
- Include letters of support from your Sierra Leone partners demonstrating their commitment and capacity.
- Be specific about how your activities integrate with Sierra Leone's national health security priorities and existing CDC programs.
- Budget realistically for international travel, local staffing, equipment, and sustainability planning beyond the grant period.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Proposals lack meaningful local partnerships or treat Sierra Leone as a passive recipient rather than an equal collaborator. Applications fail to clearly connect activities to pandemic preparedness or demonstrate how health security capacity will persist after funding ends. Budgets underestimate operational costs or lack adequate support for local staff and infrastructure.
